Why you should add your blog to Google News.
There are two factors which you should know about Google News. First of all, news articles usually appear above the organic search results and therefore attract most clicks.
The negative factor is that news articles don’t stay there for a long time. After a short period they are replaced by articles which are more up-to-date. After 30 days, they fall completely out of Google News.
As a result of these two factors, we can say that with Google News one can get a great amount of visitors in a very short period of time – but only provided that people actually search for the topic you discuss in the article and that Google chooses your article to appear in the news box.

As it takes you just a few preparations to submit your blog to Google News, there is no reason why you shouldn’t do it.
Conditions for a submission to Google News
There are some requirements that must be fulfilled in order to be included to Google News. Google News registrations are checked manually by Google employees so make sure that your site is ready for Google News.
- A blog must be run by at least two people. So you need to add a second author to your blog. If you run your blog by yourself just add an author site and write a few texts in the name of the new author. Or you can ask a friend or your family whether they can help you to create some new content. I would recommend to create an author site where you introduce each member of the team. Google will ask you for a list of authors as well as contact information when applying for Google News.
- You should write about two news articles per day. If you keep them short and simple that should not be a problem. And once Google added you to Google News it will also be okay to write less articles. Make sure that you don’t submit a brand new blog to Google News. There should be enough news content so that Google is able to evaluate your blog as a news source.
- The articles you write have to be news-related. Timeless articles are no news! If you have both, timeless and news articles on your blog start page, you need to add a category for news articles and submit this category URL when applying for Google News.
- Don’t just copy news from other sites. Your news content should be original.
Technical Requirements
Your URL must contain a three or more-digit consecutive number. You can meet this rule by changing your permalink settings to /%postname%/%post_id%/. Google will not accept a permalink structure such as /year/month/day/post-name/.
Google suggests to add a Google News Sitemap so that the crawler better finds your fresh news content. There are some plugins which help you to create a Google News Sitemap. I use this one, which works quite well!

How much content should your site have before submitting it to Google news?

Google doesn’t give information about the amount of content which is needed for a successful submission. I have a website that got accepted with only 20 articles and other websites which were declined with 100+ articles. What is important is the quality, the currentness and the uniqueness of your content.

it depends where you live. In Germany my websites were approved within one or two days. In South Africa it took several weeks.
