There are so many posts on Facebook every day. Your friends write about their activities and emotions. It happens quite often that you think how boring this is and who might care about it. But sometimes there are funny and special characters within the mass of posts. Signs like ♥, ☼, ☎ make the typeface less monotonous. But how can you add these characters, emoticons and symbols to your status updates, comments and chats? Check it out:
Characters by key sequences (ALT-Symbols)
To produce ALT symbols on windows, press and hold the ALT key and, while holding it, enter a special number combination. You have to use the numbers on the right side of the keybord for entering the ALT symbols. If you don’t have a numeric keypad (laptops often don’t have one), you need to hold both the ALT and Fn key and then press the (coloured) numbers that you can find next to the letters on your keyboard. Don’t use the numbers on top of your keyboard as they don’t work to create symbols.

how do you make the peace symbol? thanks
When I type <3 in facebook it continues to look like <3. In other words, it does not change it to look like a heart like this♥.
Also, my laptop doesn't have colored numbers on the keys – only the numbers at the top. I've never even seen colored numbers elsewhere. What am I missing?

it should work by typing in <3. Some laptops don’t have these couloured numbers. If it doesn’t work you have to copy and paste the heart: ♥
In order for the < 3 combination to work you have to have a space on both sides of it like this "blah blah blah <3 .not like this "blah blah blah<3. on facebook otherwise it does not work

I did the same thing. I learned you have to click Post and it turns up right into a heart.
I got colored number keyboard stickers at a gas station , but you might find them on ebay

if you do the alt + 3 on Facebook it will turn into a pink heart once you click “post”.
I’m using Google Chrome so I’m not sure how it does the heart with other servers.

i get a pink heart if i copy paste the “copy paste” characters from this page using my ipad’s FB app &/or when i do so by commenting from en email “push”…. it may have something to do w/your platform, OS, etc….? (because sometimes its pink, and sometimes black; i haven’t paid close attention to exactly when.)

Pink hearts only work when you comment on a post on your wall. Black hearts come up when on a status.

I was looking for ways to add hearts and other emoticons to my Facebook comments and found this site. I followed the directions above about using the alt key and a number key. But because I have a laptop without a number keypad on the right, it didn’t work. I figured it out after reading the rest of the webpage about using the fn key in addition to the alt key and the numbers in color or boxes, on the alpha keys instead of using the numbers at the top of the keyboard. But some of my friends’ comments disappeared from my profile page. I’m bummed because they were really neat comments for my birthday and I would like to bring them back. Is there a way to get them back? Are they permanently deleted or is there a shortcut key combo that I can use to bring them back? Or are they in a “recycle bin?”

I don’t get it!! I pressed alt and 1 and it didn’t come out as a smiley face. so i tried pressing alt, the plus sign and 1 altogether and it still didn’t work!! Anyone help?!?!
